Do I have to set an appointment ahead of time in order to receive counseling or take a test?

No. You do not need to set up the appointment time in advance by phone or e-mail. First, visit the Center to complete the counseling or test application form. A counselor will contact you by phone within a week, and you can then set up an appointment and visit at the appointed time for your counseling session.

What is the application interview?

It is a brief interview to help us find out your initial concerns or motivations for applying for counseling before we begin the actual counseling sessions.

Are psychological tests free of charge?

Yes. All testing services are free of charge.

What can I learn from psychological tests?

Psychological tests will help you understand various aspects about yourself such as your personality traits or tendencies, temperament, learning style, career-related interests, aptitudes, and psychological condition.

Can I apply for counseling even if I’m not a current student?

All undergraduate and graduate students who are currently registered or who are on leave of absence can use the services of the counseling center. However, counseling is not available for friends or other external parties. An exception can be made for a student’s friends or acquaintances if their participation in counseling is judged to be necessary by the counselor in order to ensure the efficacy of counseling that is being received by a student.

What is the procedure for individual counseling?

– Visit the Counseling and Career Development Center located in the Dam Hun Silhak Building, Room 904, and complete the counseling application form. Once you have submitted the form and completed an application interview, you will be contacted in person by the counselor who will be in charge of your counseling. You will set up a feasible schedule with the counselor and begin your counseling sessions.

 – Individual counseling sessions are usually 50 minutes and take place once a week. The duration period will differ depending on the topic of counseling and the individual’s needs. Usually students visit for 5~10 sessions, but some may choose to continue sessions for one semester or even one year or longer.

What kind of topics can I discuss in counseling?

You may discuss any issue you’d like. You can discuss your academic or career concerns, problems in your romantic relationships, friendships, or relation with your family, existential thoughts, your habits, or any other issue that has become a challenge to achieving the satisfactory life you desire.

Will my advisory professor or my parents be informed of what I discuss during counseling?

– Not at all. The contents of the counseling sessions are protected under strict confidentiality. You can be rest assured about your privacy and speak freely with your counselor.

 – The only exception to the confidentiality rule is when the information pertains to a danger to your safety or others, such as information on intended suicide or self-harm.
